Let’s start by introducing yourself and sharing a bit about your education and background.My name is Clancy Waite. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Acadia University and an Advanced Diploma in Public Relations from Nova Scotia Community College. I’ve worked in communications and administration-focused roles for government, public institutions, and non-profits. I’m originally from Ontario but have lived in Nova Scotia since 2011.What is your role and how does it contribute to EfficiencyOne’s overall mission and purpose?
I am the Executive Assistant and Outreach Coordinator for the President and CEO, Stephen MacDonald.What inspired you to join our organization and how has your journey evolved since then?
EfficiencyOne reached out to me with the opportunity at a time when I was trying to figure out what came next for me and what I wanted my career to look like. During my interview process, I had a chance to meet with Stephen to learn about him, the company and what the role would entail. I knew after that meeting that EfficiencyOne was somewhere I wanted to work.
It’s important for me that the work I do matters and makes an impact. At EfficiencyOne, I am helping to support Nova Scotians to transform the way they use energy as we move towards a net-zero future. Since joining the organization in January 2022, I’ve had the chance to be a part of a lot of exciting projects and grow my skills.
Have you had opportunities for training and professional development within the organization, and if so, how have they helped shape your career path?I had the opportunity to take a professional development course last year that focused on speaking as a leader. That course helped me build confidence in myself and enabled me to better support Stephen in the work that he does. I am looking forward to taking additional professional development courses in the years to come.What is most meaningful about your current role?Knowing that I am a part of something bigger than myself to help Nova Scotia undertake a substantial transformation in the coming years as we move towards net zero.Where is your favourite place you’ve travelled to so far and why?I’ve been lucky enough to travel around Canada and the United States quite a bit over the last few years. My favourite places I’ve been to recently are the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, and Western Brook Pond in Gros Morne. All three of these places are so different but so full of history and just stunning landscapes.
Were there any mentors or role models who played a significant role in shaping your career? How did they influence your development?Fred Sgambati, who I worked with at Acadia University when I was just starting my career. He made me feel welcome and a part of the team (even after I moved to a different department), provided me with guidance and support and helped celebrate my successes with me. I don’t know that he even knows the impact he had on helping to build my confidence and chase after my goals.What is your favourite thing(s) about working at EfficiencyOne?I feel incredibly supported at EfficiencyOne both professionally and personally. There is an incredible team at EfficiencyOne who I really enjoy working with. I also really appreciate the support that we are given in terms of benefits, work-life balance, and professional development.
